Righteous, Chrillis, My Mimi, and the Owl

<p>The following dissertation consists of a manuscript of poems and a critical essay. Both sections focus on part of my family’s history – how one branch, the Hairstons, owned over 10,000 slaves and 45 plantations in antebellum Virginia and North Carolina and how this legacy has effected its descendants, both black and white.</p>
