The Mediatization of the British Royal Family

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

My thesis is aimed to explore the mediatization of the British Royal Family from the early 20th century up to today’s celebrity culture. To see to the matter in its full complexity I examine this transition from many aspects: the technological and functional development of the media’s representation, the unflattering depictions of the royals, and today’s brand-like position of the Monarchy. In this context, my study analyzes one of the contemporary cinematic representations of the royal’s lives, the Netflix series: The Crown to demonstrate how the negotiation between modernity and traditions developed within the British Monarchy in the past century.
