Abstract
dc:description.abstractThis is an institution study of MediaSport production. The research subject is the relationship between the news media and sports administrative organisations in the production of sports news in contemporary China. The relationship between these two institutionalised organisations is, firstly, examined in the macro political and economic system in China. The impact of cultural factors, such as different professional characteristics and ideologies, on the relationship is also discussed. At a micro-level, the process of sports news production in China is scrutinised. Then, the study focuses on the strategies employed by the Chinese news media and Chinese sports administrative organisations to control the key actors in sports news production. Finally, the current problems in the production of sports news in China are analysed. The conclusion of the research is: the relationship between the Chinese news media and Chinese sports administrative organisations is fundamentally cooperative, due to their similar political functions. However, their organisational economic interests. which are introduced by economic reform, are different, that is why they are often in confrontation. The conflicts between them can be solved either by administrative power or by sharing economic interests. Both of them try to define sports news content based on their own value orientations, but the unintended consequence of their efforts is tabloidisation of sports news in China.
