The Thesis., describes the historical changes and political-economic processes which characterised the "Great Collapse” and the formation of new democracies in the region under examination. The basic period of the study is from 1987 to 1997. However, the author’s investigation originally covered a twenty-five year span from the mid of 197O’s up till the end of the 199O’s. The Thesis analyses the theoretical and philosophical concepts of the Hungarian and East European transition. Moreover, the Thesis presents the main ideological, political, economic and social „transformational conflicts”, and how the new post. The Thesis gives an overview on the structural results (economic and political instruments, privatisation and influx of the foreign working capital etc.) of the Hungarian transformation process. The Thesis also traces the concrete economic, political and social factors of the Hungarian Case, and continuous and discontinuous elements due to regional, housing, employment and welfare policy. The Thesis presents new and old contradictions of social needs, economic factors and political perspectives of Hungarian people. In this context the basic questions were the following: a) political approaches to poverty; b) winners and losers of transition; c) market economy and the "anatomy” of social needs; d) main instruments and limits of Hungarian "compensation policy”. Finally, the Thesis analyses the historical chances and realities of a new, Euro-comform” life quality and economic-political integration for Hungary.
