John Middleton Murry as a Critic of John Keats

John Middleton Murry, a modern disciple and critic of John Keats, was born in London on August 6, 1889. His industry in pursuing a strictly classical education at Christ’s Hospital, London, won for him a scholarship to Brasenose College, Oxford, where despite promise as a scholar it developed that his shy, self- centered disposition made him neither the idol of his professors nor the chosen companion of fellow students. |"A sudden and unorthodox end" to this career at Oxford was brought about by the romance between him and Katherine Beauchamp. His-wife-to-be was then, and is now, better known under the pen-name of Katherine Mansfield. In 1912, while he was yet an undergraduate, the two left Oxford to be married.
