Zenith Angle Dependence of Prompt Muons in High Energy Cosmic Showers
Abstract
dc:description.abstractThe prompt component of cosmic showers received increasing interest in the last decade because of its potential to expose us to new physics and to help us explore the universe using neutrino telescopes. In this study we investigate the zenith angle dependence of the prompt component for energy ranges between 1011 and 1017 eV using a computer code named ATMOS. We found that correctly parametrizing to account for double precision variables will increase both the time efficiency and the flux profile for various angles. We further improved our flux by using a temperature dependent model for the atmosphere as well as including the effect caused by the curvature of the earth.
