Abstract
dc:description.abstractTheoretically, earliest ecclesiastical jurisdiction over Nebraska dates back to the beginnings of the American Church when Pope Alexander VI by a bull of June 23, 1492, transmitted to the new world the continuity of the Catholic Church. He appointed as Vicar General Reverend Bernardo Boil, Benedictine of the Abbey of Monteserrat, who, influenced by the reform of monastic institutions in Spain, affiliated in 1492 with the Friar Minims of the Order of Saint Francis of Paula. On Columbus' second voyage he came to the new world with several assistant priests and in co-operation with the Admiral organized the new mission.
