Life's Circles

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

Author’s Note|This project came about from reading literacy narratives through Rhetoric and Composition courses at Creighton University. These narratives made me think about my own literacies, and the way my family and life have influenced what I am now able to accomplish. This is in no way an attack on my family, or friends, or even the educational system that influenced me. Instead, this is an honest portrayal of the circular nature of my own literacy development, and the ways that I learned. While looking at my own literacy development, I considered the educational theory behind my development. I am interested in what transpired to make me the individual I am today. I especially took note of some early education theory, as well as theory behind gifted and talented students as a point to draw from in looking at the ways that I started on my path to academia. The narrative path I follow begins with the important events that happen within the realm of my own reading literacy. I follow the arc from the earliest memories to my undergraduate career. I also look at the social and technological factors of my growth. The endnote to this project is an attempt to look at the theory behind my development, and explain how the choices that were made lead to my development in reading, and other literacies. This is not an all-encompassing look at my own literacy, but instead is a theoretical snap shot of my own learning.
