The Influence of Self-Care on Work-Family Satisfaction Among Women Professionals

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

Abstract Work-family satisfaction is a challenge faced by women professionals who strive to navigate responsibilities in their work and home lives. Self-care practices play a role in influencing one’s ability to manage work and home life, but to what degree was relatively unknown. Additionally, this study examined home and workplace boundaries, familial support, and organizational policies and programs that assist workers in navigating changes in how and where work takes place to bring about more comprehensive findings on the research topic. Furthermore, the role of transformational leadership on women professionals’ opportunities and ability to self-care was investigated and correlated to work-family satisfaction. Using a phenomenological qualitative research approach, 12 women professionals across the United States were interviewed via a researcher developed protocol using open-ended questions. Data were analyzed and coded, and common themes were identified. The themes were developed into recommendations for organizations and women professionals. While this study focused on self-care and work-family satisfaction among women professionals, self-care is essential for all individuals. Future studies could provide helpful insight into the effectiveness of the recommendations developed from this study.
