Implementing an Optical Surface Monitoring System for Left Breast Radiation Therapy

This research project implements VisionRT's AlignRT optical surface monitoring system to reliably position patients receiving supine breast radiation therapy, specically, the left breast where the deep inspiration breath-hold technique is used to limit cardiac dose. I implement a work flow program for properly using the optical surface monitoring system in a clinical environment. Then, I implement a quality assurance program using recommendations from the American Association of Physicists in Medicine Task Group 147 report to verify the optical surface monitoring system can align patients to isocenter and discern displacements with respect to isocenter. I report that our optical surface monitoring systems can localize targets within 1 mm and 0.5o with an average lag time of 180 ms and standard deviation of the mean 2 ms. This lag time can result in a decrease of 1.8 MU per exhalation.
