During this time finer diagnostic tools have been developed and keener diagnostic methods have been employed. Studies on the etiology of disease have led to the practice of immunization against many diseases and to the better understanding of other diseases so that they can be more readily controlled and effectively treated. New and more effective therapeutic agents have been added to the armamentarium of the physician} some so effective that diseases which formerly were often fatal are today considered only as transitory minor ailments.
