Comparison and Contrast in the Major Tragic Protagonists of Christopher Marlowe
Abstract
dc:description.abstractChristopher Marlowe will live forever as the author of four plays, Tamburlaine. Doctor Faustus. The Jew of Malta, and Edward the Second. |To study the likenesses and differences of Marlowe’s tragic protagonists in three of these is the purpose of this thesis. To date there seems to have been no study made of this problem. The plays themselves will be the primary sources for this study—Tamburlaine the Great. The Tragicall History of Doctor Faustus. and The Jew of Malta. From them emerge the tragic protagonists to be studied: Tamburlaine, Faustus, and Barabas Secondary sources will be the many critical books and articles in which the plays and their protagonists are scrutinized.
