The Use of Algebra III as an Effectlve Means of Improving Mathematical Competencies For Marginally Successful Mathematics Students
Abstract
dc:description.abstract<p>The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of marginally successful math students taking a third year of algebra their senior year in high school. A questionnaire was administered to high school graduates who had taken Algebra III in their senior year and to graduates who had taken two years of algebra and a year of geometry but had not taken a math course their senior year. The study compared the grades made by each group in the first course in college algebra. Graduates from three high schools in a large school district In Georgia completed the questionnaire. The responses were analyzed by examining the percentages and frequency counts and by doing a Ch1-square analysis on the obtained data.</p>
