Each minor strike centered around issues at separate mills -- the Muscogee Manufacturing Company, the Georgia Webbing and Tape Company, and the Eagle and Phenix Mills. On September 1, a nation-wide general strike began. Eight of the twelve mills in Columbus were inoperative due to the strike, and three of the remaining four mills were forced to shut down on the second day of the strike due to the high number of strike sympathizers among their employees.
