The Wyoming Game and Fish Commission published some recommendations to lessen the impact of oil and gas development on the wildlife to mitigate these effects (WG&F, 2007). These efforts include buffers around nests, migration corridors, concentration areas, and non-surface disturbance. Environmental stipulations, restrictions, and pipeline availability have proven to be limiting factors for developing the Lewis Shale in Wyoming. In addition, drilling operations can significantly affect the wildlife by destroying their habitat and reproduction areas. As a result, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Wyoming Game and Fish (WG&F), and Wyoming Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (WOGCC) have developed a set of rules that must be followed when applying for a drilling permit. The resulting maps show the areas with better production, fewer environmental concerns, and more pipelines available. The areas with fewer environmental stipulations and are located closer to available pipelines are found towards the Great Divide Basin near the Lost Creek, Red Dessert, Strike, and Siberia Ridge fields. These areas still have some restrictions on drilling times and some buffers present, but restrictions are fewer. These areas on the north also represent the most productive (oil) and prospective areas for well development. Completion techniques are often one of the most expensive parts of drilling and producing a well. Therefore, the costs of proppant and completion fluid are significant in determining individual well or even field economic viability. A production analysis was made using the volume of proppant, the volume of fluid injected, the number of fracture stimulation stages, and production to infer their effect on production. But it seems there is no correlation between them. Other factors such as the internal reservoir characteristics (such as lithology or bed thickness) could be affecting the production of these wells.
