Development of Culturally Tailored Needs Assessments for Sustainable LYTE Foundation Initiatives Leveraging the Support of Public Health Interns

<p>This dissertation employs an exploratory research methodology coupled with a design thinking approach to enhance the development and implementation of a culturally informed needs assessment for the LYTE Foundation, a nonprofit organization focusing on breast cancer survivorship. Utilizing the assistance of public health interns, the study aims to identify and implement best practices for culturally tailored needs assessment strategies. Through an extensive literature review and real-time management of graduate interns, this research identifies effective methods for culturally informed needs assessment within nonprofit organizations, particularly addressing the diverse breast cancer survivorship community. Study limitations are acknowledged and addressed, leading to the formulation of a comprehensive plan for risk mitigation and project goal attainment. Key discoveries inform the establishment of culturally tailored needs assessment strategies, offering valuable insights for future LYTE Foundation initiatives. Collaborative efforts between management and public health interns, result in the creation of a culturally informed needs assessment tool, employing widely used frameworks for adaptability and consideration of unique cultural contexts. Additionally, a training program emphasizing cultural humility and effective needs assessment techniques is developed for public health interns. A data management plan ensures the seamless flow of information among LYTE Foundation charters operating in various regions across the United States. Furthermore, a personnel management plan addresses the needs of a geographically dispersed team comprising master’s and doctoral students, supporting the upcoming LYTE Foundation charters' requirements.</p>
