Every person has a story to tell, and it is these stories that shape a person into who they are. The purpose of this ethnographic narrative is to explore the stories of both myself and my students’ in order to gain a better understanding on how accommodate and support each need in my classroom. It is also a reflection of how these stories have shaped me as teacher, and how I have developed over this year of teaching. While I listened and learned stories from each of my students, I focused extensively on three for the purposes of this research. The first student I focused on was an English Learner. (EL) The second student on which I focused was a student with an Individualized Education Plan. (IEP) Lastly, the third student on which I focused was a student with significant life experience. By exploring their stories, researching their community, and evaluating our classroom ecology, I was able to grow and develop as a teacher, solidify my why and purpose, and express to my students that they are someone important.
