The first objective was to review research done in the area of auditory discrimination to discover how auditory discrimination is related to reading, its importance to reading and whether or not it merits the time required for developing auditory discrimination skills. The second objective was to formulate a collection of games and activities for developing skills in the auditory discrimination of consonants and consonant blends, and present them to a class of first grade children to see if they would aid in developing the required skills.
