An investigation on the provision of timely and relevant information in mental health

This research study seeks to investigate the perceived barriers to effective information provision for mental health care delivery, by comparing practitioner's perceptions with the Trust's strategic solutions derived from national and local frameworks. The study uses a combination of research methods to investigate the current state of information management within a local NHS Trust. After surveying the current literature in the area of mental health informatics, the study considers the extent of data duplication in the mental health services in the Trust under investigation. The staff attitudes are investigated by an attitudinal survey, complemented by interviews with key personnel. During the period of study, the UK National Service Framework for Mental Health and its associated information strategy. This dissertation concludes by evaluating the findings of this local study with the national strategy documents and the original aims of this study.
