Plasticity as an adaptive mechanism to environmental change in wild house mice

This thesis contributes to the study of the effects and mechanisms underlying phenotypic plasticity in wild mice, with an emphasis on how mice adjust phenotypically in response to environmental change. It specifically addresses three key hypotheses: the condition-dependence hypothesis, which predicts that plasticity varies with individual state; the match–mismatch hypothesis, which examines how developmental environments affect later-life performance; and the silver spoon hypothesis, which suggests that favourable early-life experience provides long-lasting benefits in behaviour, physiology and life-history.
