As our kin she carries her own sovereignty: Wolastoqey sonic sovereignty, or Wolastoqey lands and waters, language, and kinship braided together. Sonically, it engages with our Earth Mother’s teachings, how our language unifies and carries the breadth of our identities among Wolastoqiyik, respectful and reciprocal relationships, and ancestral breath. These concepts express the song of my people, one that is heard throughout my work. I engage with storywork and two-eyed seeing, drawing on oral knowledge from my community and Hopi sonic sovereignty (Reed 2018) while prioritizing stories as a traditional way of knowledge transfer, mobilization, and creation.
