The speculative fiction draws inspiration from two seminal Japanese animated films, Princess Mononoke and Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. The narrative examines the relationship of salt as both culture and technology. The pervasiveness of salt in a culture influenced by Shintō reinforces the cultural value of salt. Additionally, salt-based batteries are described as safer and cleaner alternatives, due to resource abundance and non-combustibility.
