An experimental investigation of the flow over a double backward facing step

An experimental investigation of the flow over a double backward facing step is carried out in an attempt to show if it is justified to assume two-dimensional flow, as most investigators have done, or if in fact one must consider the three-dimensional aspects of such a flow. The results are compared with those of other researchers, and are used in an attempt to test the theoretical model suggested by Kline(1966). From these results one is able to conclude that the flow is basically two-dimensional, and hence there is no supporting evidence for Kline's proposed model.
