Abstract
dc:description.abstractThis thesis examines the utilization of rocky intertidal, sandy-beach surf-zone and estuarine habits by fishes on the southwestern Cape coast of South Africa. It has there central objectives: 1) to determine the species composition, abundance, size structure and seasonality of fish and to examine the extent to which they are influenced by environmental factors; 2) to describe the diets and patterns of feeding of the fish and to assess their impact on the food resources; and 3) to determine the importance of these habitats as nursery areas for juvenile fish.
