Langebaan Lagoon has been a proclaimed National Park for 20 years and a proclaimed Marine Protected Area since 2000. The area is zoned for different human uses, about one third being reserved as a sanctuary, one third for non-extractive visitation and one third for extractive purposes including bait-collecting and fishing.
