Long-term changes in the benthic macrofauna of Saldanha Bay
Abstract
dc:description.abstractSaldanha Bay, which lies on the west coast of South Africa, has undergone major development over the last 30 years, including breakwater and harbour construction, harbour extension, dredging, mining, fishing, fish-processing and mussel culture. The aims of this study were to determine whether the benthic macrofaunal communities in the Bay have been altered over this period and to explore the benthic community patterns within the Bay prior to and after harbour development.
