Social factors affecting the design and management of state-subsidised medium-density housing in Cape Town
Abstract
dc:description.abstractMany urban planners and designers have recognised the notable discrepancy between state policy in recent years supporting the densification of urban housing development, and broad acceptance of this approach by residents, in particular recipients of state-subsidised housing. This study sought to investigate the reasons for this in acknowledgement of the negative experiences of these residents, and to produce findings that could help to reduce the drawbacks still strongly associated with densified housing estates.
