BF-1 is expressed in the telecephalic neuroepithelium, olfactory placode and the nasal half of the optic stalk and retina during embryogenesis (Hatini et al 1994; Lai and Tao 1992). In these tissues, BF-1 plays multiple roles in regional patterning and regulating cell proliferation and differentiation.
