Thirty actinomycete strains belonging to the genera Gordonia, Kineococcus, Kribbella, Micromonospora, Nocardia and Streptomyces were selected for full characterisation. A polyphasic approach combining physiology, chemotaxonomy and phylogenetic analysis was used to characterise these isolates. A number of potentially novel strains belonging to the rarer genera were identified, including two Kineococcus and three Micromonospora strains.
