A new laboratory test apparatus was designed, built and commissioned to facilitate this research. The new apparatus is capable of simulating the reciprocating wear of a sliding couple under diverse conditions of pressure, sliding speed and lubricant environment, as well as allowing the measurement of frictional forces 'encountered between the two surfaces in sliding contact.
