Here mainstream theories of intervention may not be appropriate to facilitate maximum client participation in change processes. Different counselling approaches geared towards being client rather than counsellor or organisation specific becomes necessary and need to be developed. Counselling systems should therefore consider cultural paradigms and encourage the notion of diversity in its approaches. This thesis attempts to contribute to this position by examining the role of lslam in counselling and psychotherapy.
