A protocol for a study of community health work in Khayelitsha, an impoverished peri-urban settlement near Cape Town, which is home to a number of ‘flagship’ public health interventions aimed at HIV/AIDS and TB. 2. A review of literature on community health work exploring naturalistic versus economistic discourses around care work, and the complex intersections of these discourses. 3.
