To explore the notion of a faithful translation, the approach of the Ecole Superieure d'lnterpretes et de Traducteurs (ESIT) is examined. This approach, developed by Danica Seleskovitch and Marianne Lederer, emphasises the communication of meaning and the crucial role that interpretation plays in the act of translation.
