Essays in Development Economics and Political Economy

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

My thesis, a composition of three essays, addresses issues on the frontier of development economics research. Each essay is presented as a self-contained chapter and follows a format typically encountered in journal articles. The initial pair of chapters delve into the economic ramifications of mobile money. My first chapter investigates its impact on domestic migration behaviour, while the second explores the effects of technology exposure on intra-village social and economic networks. My third chapter shifts away from research on mobile money to study the impact of political alliances between local politicians on household economic outcomes.
