Architetture transitorie. Progetti e strategie per la rigenerazione dei paesaggi rurali della Sardegna.

Through the study of the relationships between rural manufacturing companies and the territory in which they operate, in their dual nature as part of the anthropised fabric and key artefacts in the protection of the countryside, this research aims to define the ways in which architecture can contribute to the regeneration of rural landscapes, pursuing an approach linked to the multifunctionality of the territorial system. The aim is therefore to explore new architectural types for the integration and redevelopment of rural farm spaces, which are thus repositioned within a more complex production circuit of products and services, in a multifunctional key, considering space and its quality both from the perspective of a renewed balance between rural settlements and the landscape, and for a general improvement of the living conditions of the countryside for those who live and work there and for those who are hosted as part of the provision of a wide range of services. We will seek to develop intervention strategies that have the more specific and precise aim of introducing micro-elements into the agricultural landscape that are capable of fulfilling the purely functional requirements of local practice and becoming nodes in a recognisable network for the protection and management of productive land. These devices are defined in the research Transitional Architectures. The operating principles with which we intend to develop our approach to the theme are: reversibility, temporariness and transportability of “grafting devices” according to a sustainable paradigm that creates a new, timely, flexible and adaptable “countryside foundation”. In this scenario, this thesis aims to develop clear and, in many cases, immediately operational project hypotheses through the development of an intervention catalogue based on the categorisation of spaces linked to multifunctionality. The historical documentary research and typological studies useful for establishing a solid knowledge base, as well as a more implementation-oriented verification phase, will take the territory of Marmilla and, more generally, the Sardinian countryside linked to small-scale production processes as a representative case.
