Nanoparticles from microalgae for environmental and biomedical applications

Abstract

dc:description

The research discusses the multifaceted applications of microalgae-derived nanoparticles, particularly focusing on their potential in biomedical, environmental, and catalytic fields. The study highlights the synthesis of silver nanoparticles, titanium dioxide nanoparticles, cobalt (II) hydroxide nanomaterials, and cobalt (II, III) oxide using a methanolic extract of S. platensis, showcasing their efficacy as innovative antifungal agents. The investigation employs various analytical techniques, such as GCMS, FTIR, XRD, SEM, TGA, and zeta potential measurements, to characterize the properties of the synthesized nanomaterials. Notably, silver nanoparticles exhibit exceptional thermal stability and antifungal activity against Candida species. The research also explores the carbon monoxide oxidizing ability of nanomaterials synthesized from microalgae extracts, presenting diverse Co3O4 catalysts with unique characteristics and improved catalytic performance. Additionally, the study investigates the photocatalytic degradation of Brilliant Blue R dye using silver nanoparticles derived from C. vulgaris and H. pluvialis, demonstrating significant efficiency in removing organic dyes from wastewater and addressing water pollution concerns. Overall, the findings suggest the potential of microalgae-derived nanoparticles for versatile and environmentally friendly applications.
