The main feature of these films is the employ of the local idioms - the Barbaricino and Campidanese varieties of Sardinian - alongside popular and regional Italian. Throughout a comparative analysis between novels and film dialogues, the research aims to investigate the most significant language changes in the passage from the literary to the audiovisual medium. The linguistic study of the “new Sardinian cinema” is also stimulating to comprehend the directors’ increasing attention to the Sardinian local dialects and their broadcasting, transmission and conservation.
