Sapere critico e cultura civile nel Settecento italiano: Muratori e Genovesi

My thesis analyses the thought of Lodovico Antonio Muratori and that of Antonio Genovesi in order to evaluate how a particular ideal of modern culture develops and evolves in Italy. In this respect, if the authors operate in different historical contexts and belong to two distinct generations – and perhaps to two distinct seasons – of Italian Eighteenth Century, they offer similar answers and solutions to the crisis of traditional values and to the radical conclusions of European Enlightenment, with an idea of cultural renewal that remains on the thresholds of secularisation.
