This study examines suburban neighborhoods of the Buffalo Metropolitan Area (BMA) which have experienced stratification due to the neighborhood change process. This study argues that the stratified suburban neighborhoods (inner- and outer-suburban neighborhoods) of the BMA have disparities in their levels of neighborhood hardships, educational opportunities, and educational outcomes. Several statistical analyses were utilized to support these arguments, namely descriptive statistics, T-test, Hierarchical Linear Model (HLM), Ordinary Least Square Regression (OLS), and Geographically-weighted Regression (GWR). The finding from series of T-test analyses support the argument that there is a significant difference between inner- and outer-suburban neighborhoods in terms of the neighborhood hardship index in 2010, but not in 2015. There is also a significant difference between these two suburban categories in school performance 2010/2011 and school performance in 2015/2016. In addition to the significant difference between these two suburban categories, this study argues that there is a significant difference in school performance between school districts. The findings from HLM support the argument of a significant difference between inner- and outer-suburban school performance at the elementary school level, but not at the middle and high school levels. The findings of HLM analyses in all education levels show that the variance between-districts is higher than the variance within-districts.
