Methods: Subjects received a diagnosis of either myalgia or bilateral disc displacement with reduction (N=147) based on DC/TMD and MRI assessment. Subjects were classified into four groups: normal (n=46) disc displacement (n=37) myalgia (n=18) and disc displacement with reduction & myalgia (n=46). Outcome variables included the global JFLS and the three subscales; mastication, vertical jaw mobility and verbal and non-verbal communication. Scoring of JFLS and subscale was done as recommended, computing a mean of the single global score of the available items. Subscale score for each subscale was computed as the mean of the item for each subscale. The association between jaw functional limitation and the diagnostic groups was analyzed using Kruskal Wallis test and pairwise comparisons using Mann-Whitney test due to the lack of normal distribution and equality of variances. Results: The distribution of the global and the three subscales are different across the four groups (p 0.05). The myalgia and disc displacement & myalgia groups have the highest mean in the global and each of the subscales.
