The Sculpture of Roman Minturnae

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

The Sculpture of Roman Minturnae catalogues by types all pieces of sculpture found at a provincial town in Latium which flourished from 295 B.C. until the sixth century A.C. Although most pieces have been previously published, the bibliography of each is brought up to date and new insights are offered with regard to identification, iconography, and dating. A special attempt is made to place the sculptures in the context of the decorative program of the buildings in which they were found. The study concludes with observations as to why certain types were chosen and what may have determined the artistic "taste" of the citizens of Minturnae.
