Neuroaesthetics and its Efficacy Within Healthcare Settings

This review synthesizes historical and contemporary research on neuroaesthetics to offer practical recommendations for integrating aesthetic neuroscience into professional practice. Drawing from foundational work by Gustav Fechner and contemporary thinkers like Semir Zeki, Susan Magsamen, and Christian Carbon, this review highlights how aesthetic experience influences brain function and emotional regulation. Secondly, it comments on the efficacy of utilizing neuroaesthetic tools and research in application to healthcare settings in general, with a focus on mental health counseling. Unlike art therapy, which involves guided creative expression within a clinical framework, neuroaesthetics is a scientific exploration of how the brain responds to sensory and artistic stimuli. It provides both clinical and biologically grounded tools for enhancing wellbeing, learning, and recovery.
