A growing number of ELLs in the Patchogue Medford School District are impacted by the lack of bilingual teachers, which may result in strained interpersonal connections, linguistic inadequacies, and the replacement of experienced teachers. The issue of teacher retention will be explored, along with solutions such as college courses and professional development sessions, in an effort to lessen it. A professional development program is designed for all elementary teachers within the Patchogue Medford School District to attend called Patchogue Medford Bilingual/TESOL Superheroes. The teachers in this professional development learn more about the background of the school community with ELLs, strategies to help them with reading, and ideas to promote inclusivity in the district.
