Plano de texto e orientação argumentativa: acusação e defesa no impeachment de Dilma Rousseff

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

This doctoral thesis investigates the establishment of the relationship between the text plan and the argumentative orientation in texts of accusation and defense within the impeachment proceedings of President Dilma Vana Rousseff. Research questions aim to comprehend the following: how the structures of the text plans are constituted; how the text plans are configured in the argumentative orientation; how the argumentative orientation is evidenced and carried out in the text plans; and what functions linguistic features of the argumentation may exert in the text plans. This study, thus, aims to analyze how, linguistically, the relation between the text plans and the argumentative orientation is established; and, more specifically, describes how the text plans are configured; describes the linguistic features of the argumentative orientation; interprets the functions of the linguistic features and their relation to the text plans and the argumentative orientation; and interprets the relationship between the text plans and the argumentative orientation. Regarding the methodology, the research relies on deductive and inductive methods. The sources are documental and bibliographic in nature and undergo a descriptive analytical interpretation. The corpus consists of the texts of two documents from the lawsuit in question, as follows: the denouncement (accusatory brief), section “Of the facts”, and the defense (response to the accusation), defense brief by the defendant, section “General contextualization”. The text plan and the argumentative orientation consist of two levels of analysis as proposed in the theoretical-methodological framework of the textual discourse analysis (TDA), developed by Jean-Michel Adam (2011). The study carries out a linguistic analysis with the objective of relating these two levels, in which, on “Level 5” (L5), the text plan the focus, and on “Level 8” (L8), the argumentative orientation. The theoretical base of the research is founded on Texual Linguistics (TL) and the theoretical-methodological framework proposed by Adam (2011). Foundational studies consulted regarding argumentation include, Aristotle (1969), Perelman and Olbrechts-Tyteca (1996), Koch (2009, 2011) and Adam (2014). In addition to these categories of the text plan and the argumentative orientation, the linguistic features of the argumentation are analyzed from the perspective of the textual articulators, the presupposition, the discourse modes, and the polyphonic authority. The results reveal that the text plans analyzed present argumentative strategies that are specified according to the intentions of the accuser and defender, establishing a relationship with the argumentative orientation identified by the linguistic features.
