Dieta de baixo carboidrato: uma revisão de literatura
Abstract
dc:description.abstractObesity is the fastest growing nutritional problem seen in the population in recent years, is considered a worldwide epidemic, its consequences for health are numerous, ranging from the risk of premature death to several non-lethal diseases, but that affect the individual's quality of life, obese people have a risk of developing type 2 diabetes in 3 times more when compared to people with normal weight. In search of solutions to stop the problem, have been observed several dietary strategies, of which stood out as the most popular currently, is restricted in carbohydrates, several studies relating diet such as beneficial to the improvement of the metabolic syndrome markers, but results also indicate that there are important effects of carbohydrate restriction, which deserve further investigation. Thus, the aim of this study was to conduct a literature review on the low-carbohydrate diet and evaluate their effectiveness in weight loss and treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus as well as its side effects. The means used to survey this review were the databases: SCIELO, PubMed and Google Scholar, with only selected articles published in the last 13 years. Upon review it was concluded that the low-carbohydrate diet is effective in short-term weight loss, improvement of some biochemical parameters, but long-term studies are needed to assess whether these benefits will persist over the years.
