Abstract
dc:description.abstractEmulsions are dispersed systems composed of at least two immiscible liquid phases and an emulsifying agent to stabilize the same. The dispersed phase is known as the internal phase and external phase as the dispersing form, however, are thermodynamically unstable systems. Although an ancient pharmaceutical form, emulsions are an area in great research and development. What in the last 20 years has been to prominence and had high acceptability in the pharmacological area, mainly at cosmetology .This paper aims to bring together a collection of information based on national and international literature on the emulsion to produce a literature review. This is a bibliographic research and scientific character between the years 1999 to 2014, consisting of scientific source information in the area of technology, pharmaceutical technology and pharmacology applied to this system, collected indirectly based on seconda ry sources such as books , websites, journal articles, theses and journals in databases: Medline / PubMed, SciELO, Wiley Online Library, Science Direct, Web of Knowledge, scientific Journals Portal Health Science and Google Scholar. The literature review w as carried out between the months of August to October 2014. Considering the numerous advantages compared disadvantages, confirm how emulsions are interesting in patient care from pediatric to geriatrics and are able to solve numerous pharmacotechnical pro blems, from the low solubility of certain drugs, until improve their bioavailability
