Perfil epidemiológico das micoses superficiais causadas por leveduras do gênero Candida em laboratório de João Pessoa-PB

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

Epidemiological profiles indicate that superficial mycoses are among the most common human diseases. It is believed that affect 20% to 25% of the world pop ulation, affecting the execution daily tasks and sporting activities undertaken by affected patients. The Candida yeasts have a great importance for the high frequency which colo nize and infect the human host. Candida species are part of the normal flora of the skin, mouth, gastrointestinal tract and genitourinary tract. However, these commensal microorganisms become pathogenic if there are changes in host defense mechanisms . Worl dwide it is estimated that 25% to 50% of healthy individuals have Candida as part of the normal oral microbiota, with C. albicans accounts for 70% to 80% of the isolates. Fungal infections are not notice a ble diseases, so do not have exact idea of the exten sion problem in the state of Paraíba. This fact shows the need to perform periodic surveys of the frequency of mycosis and its etiological agents, as a measure of epidemiological prevention. Thus, this study aimed to contribute to the knowledge of the curr ent frequency and etiology of superficial mycoses caused by Candida yeasts occurred in the city of João Pessoa, PB. We analyzed all the results of myco logi cal of patients seen in a private laboratory during the period August 2010 to September 2014, obtaining a t otal of 2479 reports. The award consists of a result of the direct mycological examination and culture. Regarding the Candida species involved in the study, there were 79 (27.4%) positive for C. krusei, 69 (24.0%) cases of C. tropicalis, 69 (24.0%) cases o f C. albicans , 29 (10.1%) cases of C. guillermondi. With a higher prevalence in women (75%) and positive reports in the region of the nails (onychomycosis) (60%). What differs from the normal epidemiological data from Brazil. Therefore it is necessary to m ore comprehensive studies on the subject and a formulation of a regional epidemiological profile
