Perfil da automedicação em acadêmicos do curso de farmácia, em uma instituição de ensino superior, no município de João Pessoa-PB.

Self - medication is a common practice, however, may allow health problems in relation to the treatment of diseases, interactions and drug intoxications. Based on this information, a descriptive, quantitative study w as performed, which aimed to examine the perceptions of novice and graduating students in Pharmacy from Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB). The present study had a descriptive character, being carried out with students of Pharmacy belonging to the 1st to 2nd period (beginners) and 9 to 10 period (graduating students). The aim of this study was to present the knowledge of the students of 1st, 2nd, 9th and 10th periods of pharmacy course from UFPB about self - medication. The sample consisted of 100 students, in which was applied an evaluation instrument, in this case a questionnaire, in order to collect information on the understanding and use of medicines. The results obtained indicate that students of all analyzed periods perform self - medication, and when a sked if they had knowledge to use this practice , 80% of the graduating students answered yes, however in the group of beginning students, 69% said they had no knowledge to self - medication. Most of the graduating students of pharmacy believe to have satisfa ctory knowledge to self - medicating, still claiming to be aware of the damage that the self - medication may cause to health.
