Arterial hypertension as a clinical condition characterized by elevation and support of blood pressure l evels. A review of the literature shows that there is a close relationship between the occurrence of Hypertension and food consumption especially Vitamin A. Based on these facts the project objective was to characterize the consumption of VA in individuals with Diabetes Mellitus and Hypertension and verify possible relationships. It was a descriptive study in which related information 60 adult individuals of both genders, DM, assisted in the project were analyzed: \"Intervention and Continuing Education for Diabetic Patients\", coming from the extension program of the Department of Nutrition Sciences Center health of the Federal University of Paraíba. To build the profile of the participants a questionnaire, after this phase, all patients underwent procedures nutritional assessment (anthropometry) was applied. Further, according to the need, strategies for nutrition monitoring in outpatient care have been developed by professional nutritionist. For registration of food intake was used the method of recall 24h, and calculating the amount of consumed energy and nutrients, especially Vitamin A, software version 2000 AVANUTRI statistical analysis was used, Graph program was used Pad InStat, adopting a significance level of 5% (P <0.005). The results show that 30% of patients were men and 70% women, aged 23 - 80 years. Of these, 37 presented HA, 17 were normotensive and in four there was no measurement. Higher prevalence of overweight in normotensive patients (58%) was observed, unlike the hypertensive (17%). As the con sumption of vitamin A, 78.4% had low power and only 13 (21.6%) were above the adequate consumption according to the RDI (2002). There was a significant difference showing that hypertensive individuals consume more vitamin A than normotensive. With respect to the consumption of the same gender showed no significant difference. The ratio of Vitamin A with hypertension and obesity has not been fully clarified, if need, therefore more studies to elucidate whether there is a relationship entity the two, as is ne cessary guidance on the consumption of this vitamin, minimizing their consequences lack.","abstract_html":"Diabetes mellitus is defined as a syndrome of multiple etiology, derived from the lack of insulin or its inability to adequately perform its functions.
