O efeito antioxidante da quercetina em doenças crônicas não transmissíveis : uma revisão de literatura.

The Chronic Non-communicable Diseases (NCDs) are responsible for various health complications that the global population has been facing through the years and new lifestyle habits of modernity brought by demographic, epidemiological, and nutritional transitions around the world, including Brazil. Nowadays, changes in the national health system are envisioned, seeking greater attention to chronic conditions of morbidities when compared to acute conditions. This of NCDs consists in cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, hypertension, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases, liver and kidney damage, among others. They are from multifactorial etiology and share many of these risk factors, which may be behavioral or genetic. Studies have shown that some of the risk factors can be reduced through changes in daily habits. Therefore, the literature has been giving emphasis on functional food, an efficient aid in the prevention and or treatment of disease states. Among these foods are flavonoids, which put great importance for therapeutic purposes, and are components of a large class of naturally occurring substances. Quercetin is an important example of flavonoid distributed in the plant kingdom, and also can be consumed through a traditional alimentation. It is considered a functional food by scientific and therapeutic interest that has called on scholars, due to its important properties, highlighting its potential antioxidant effect, removal of free radicals, and others. Studies on the action mechanisms of Quercetin have been highlighted in the scientific space, by the collaborative injury prevention through risk factors that it has shown , as well as in several chronic diseases therapy.
